Making sure the venue is suitable for a marquee.
Ask these 8 questions to ensure there are no hiccups on the day.
Booking a marquee is a complicated process and unfortunately, things can go wrong. Ask these 8 questions to make your life a little easier and to avoid any hiccups on the big day.
8 questions you should ask the venue owner before booking the site.
Have they had marquees on the site before?
Why ask... If the site has had a marquee before, it can have a marquee again!
Are there any underground pipes or cables?
Why ask... Marquees are supported by long steaks which are hammered into the ground which can pierce underground cables & pipes.
Is there good access to the site?
Why ask... If there isn't adequate access, the crew putting up the marquee will have to carry the marquee and equipment manually, which will incur an additional labour cost.
Is there enough power at the site for lighting, refrigeration, bar equipment, Dj speakers, a band, PA system etc.
Why ask... If there isn't adequate power at the site you will need to hire a generator. Call us on 01626 245056 for advice about this.
Are there toilets at the site?
Why ask... If not you will need to hire portaloos or trailer toilets (which we can organise for you).
Is there running water at the site?
Why ask... Caterers will often need running water to cook with. Your guests will need drinking water. If there isn't any, you will have to hire water tanks.
Does the ground flood easily?
Why ask... If the ground is prone to flooding, you may need to hire raised flooring to eliminate the risk of flooding inside the marquee.
Do we need to turn the music off at a certain time?
Why ask... Some sites have specific times where music needs to be turned off due to residential buildings being close by.
3 small things which can make a big difference:
1. What is the ground type, for example, soil or concrete?
Why ask... As marquees use steaks which need to be hammered into the ground to fix the structure. If your site is on a solid surface like tarmac or concrete you will need to hire ballast to keep the marquee supported (some marquees cannot be erected on solid surfaces).
2. Are there any overhead cables or overhead tree branches?
Why ask... If there are any objects above the marquee site you may be limited to the type of marquee you can put up there. Call us on 01626 245056 for advice about this.
3. How level the ground is.
Why ask... Marquees work best on flat surfaces. If the ground is slightly sloped or has small lumps & dips the flooring will usually level this out. However, is the ground has a big slope or big bumps you might have to hire in suspended flooring or raised flooring to make marquee level.
